Tiramisu-Toffee Dessert

Ingredients 

1 package ( 10 3/4 ounces) frozen pound cake, thawed

3/4 cup strongly brewed coffee or espresso at room temperature

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup chocolate syrup

1 package mascarpone cheese or cream cheese at room temperature

2 cups heavy whipping cream

2 bars (1.4 ounce each) chocolate-covered toffee candy

Cut cake crosswise into 9 slices.  Arrange cake slices on the bottom of the ungreased rectangular pan, cutting cake slices if necessary to cover bottom of pan.  Drizzle the coffee over cake slices.  Beat the sugar, chocolate syrup and mascarpone cheese in a large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add the whipping cream. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy.  Spread the cheese mixture over the cake slices. Chop the candy into small pieces.  Sprinkle chopped candy over top of dessert. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour to set dessert and blend flavors but no longer than 24 hours.
